“The One” is a modern musical written by Fredrik “Benke” Rydman and Åsa Lindholm. The music in the musical is composed by popular Swedish songwriters such as Linnea Deb, Andreas Lindbergh, Joy Deb, Miss Li, Sonny Gustafsson, Lukas Nathanson, and Anton Hård af Segerstad. The musical features Isa Tengblad, Janice, and Alvaro Estrella, as well as Erik Johansson from “Bonusfamiljen” and Christine Meltzer from “Sommaren med släkten” and “Udda veckor.”
The story takes place during an audition, and the narratives of the young dancers’ lives are based on real interviews with young adults. The creators of the musical aim to authentically reflect the reality of young people.
Benke Rydman describes “The One” as his passion project and a declaration of love to dance. He seeks to renew the concept of musicals by incorporating contemporary pop music and capturing the thoughts and feelings of young people today.
The musical is scheduled to premiere at Cirkus in Stockholm on September 14, 2023. The story unfolds during an audition where both the ensemble and the audience await the start of “The One.” The music and choreography of the musical draw inspiration from Swedish pop music and promise an intense experience that explores themes of success, self-esteem, community, and vulnerability.
